Papers, 1828-1972 (bulk 1860-1887).

Chiefly papers created and collected by Walther; together with a few items belonging to his wife, Emilie Bünger Walther. Correspondence series includes letters to and from Walther and includes originals and copies including photocopies and handwritten transcriptions of the originals in old Suetterlin handwriting, perhaps done by his secretary Emmerich Kähler, or typed transcripts; together with additional translations (1907-1972) by various persons under the direction of Concordia Seminary professor Dr. Carl S. Meyer. Walther's writings series is divided into 4 subseries: Lutherstunden, notes appearing in chronological order taken by Walther's students in his Friday night lectures called Lutherstunden and original notes for his lectures on The Proper Distinction between Law and Gospel (Rechte Unterscheidung von Gesetz und Evangelium); his diary (transcribed), starting in 1828, which contains poetry written by him; Gutachten, faculty opinions, consisting of answers to theological questions from one or more members of the faculty of Concordia Seminary; and Student notes containing notes that apparently were prepared by Walther as a student at the University of Leipzig. Photographs series contains photos of Walther and some of his family as well as Walther artifacts, rooms, buildings, and the Walther mausoleum. Financial/legal documents series is arranged in chronological order. And Sermons series is arranged according to biblical text and many of them have been published in various monographs and periodicals.
